AB 2279 Action Alert - Protect Workers' Right to MMJ

The Cal. State Senate is expected to vote shortly on AB 2279, Mark Leno's bill to protect medical marijuana patients from employment discrimination.

The following votes (all Democratic) are critical to passage of the bill:

Sen. Ronald Calderon (Montebello) 916-651-4030 / FAX 916:327:8755

Sen. Elaine Alquist (San Jose - Vasco's old seat) 916-651-4013 / FAX 916:324-0283

Sen. Denise Ducheny (San Diego) 916-651-4040 / FAX 916:327:3522

Sen. Joe Simitian (Palo Alto) 916-651-4011 / FAX 916:323:4529

Sen. Mike Machado (Stockton) 916-651-4005 / FAX 916:323:3204

Sen. Dean Florez (Bakersfield) 916-651-4016 / FAX 916:327:5989

State Sen. President Pro-Tem Don. Perata (Oakland - normally a solid pro-cannabis vote, but squishy due to political pressure from corruption investigation) 916-651-4009 / FAX 916:327:1997

Constituents of these legislators are urged to FAX their Senators if at all possible; otherwise, write/phone or send an e-mail alert: http://capwiz.com/norml2/issues/alert/?alertid=11740846. PLEASE CONTACT ONLY STATE SENATORS IN WHOSE DISTRICT YOU LIVE.

The drop-dead deadline for passage is Aug 31st, but the legislature is trying to adjourn by Aug 22nd in order to attend the Demo convention; of course, that will require a budget deal.

Sen.____
State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814

Dear Senator___:

Please vote for AB 2279, to protect workers who use medical marijuana from employment discrimination, and in particular from unscientific and discriminatory pre-employment urine testing.

AB 2279 would end the wrongful and unjustified misuse of urine testing to discriminate against medical marijuana patients. There is no scientific rationale for banning medical marijuana users from employment. Urine tests are inherently flawed and misleading because they do not measure current fitness or impairment on the job.

Medical marijuana is safer than many other pharmaceutical drugs whose use is protected under California law. Patients should not be discriminated against based on their medical treatment. Please vote for AB 2279.

Sincerely,
