Youth to hang for ganja trafficking

TEMERLOH: A youth was sent to the gallows after the High Court here
found him guilty of trafficking in cannabis two years ago.
Helmi Mohd Hussin, 23, was sentenced to death by Justice Akhtar Tahir
after the court found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond
reasonable doubt.
The accused was said to have trafficked in 908.18 gm of cannabis at his
brother's house in No 45, Jalan Bahagia 24, Taman Bahagia Jaya, near
here, on May 21, 2007.
He was charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which
carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, Helmi was in one of the rooms which
was locked from the inside when a team of anti-narcotics officers raided
the house at 9.15pm.
After the officers knocked on the door several times, the accused opened
it and was immediately detained after they found three packets
containing cannabis on the floor.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Najmi Daud prosecuted while the
accused was represented by Aedi Tajuddin and Rozilan Abdul Rahman.
